SHOCKING BUT TRUE!

Okay, not that shocking olol. More when I talk about Kung Fu Panda soon! Or not!

I'm actually way tireder than I sound; another twelve-hour workday, yes, but at least I didn't have the damnable leather steel-toes that made me want to die by the tenth hour. My feet are apparently powerful pleasure centers or the focal point for an all-consuming desire for self-annihilation.

I was off three days prior to this, but, man, WHAT a three days! Sunday, I took off on vacation to join [info]allisino as her sponsor on her RCIA journey. We were at a beautiful Rite of Sending at our own parish before we all met up again as a group at a cathedral to meet the bishop. Only the unbaptized catechumens got to shake his hand though, and along with the unbaptized also getting to sign the Book of the Elect, we both half-wished we were unbaptized too lol. But not quite, heh.

Monday was spent running errands and preparing for my awesome mother's awesome birthday, which was had by all yesterday, and we gave her the laptop she'd always wanted. Woohoo! Now she's not the only one of her sisters who doesn't have one! Seriously, she was determined to go out that night and buy one for herself if we hadn't pulled out our surprise gift. And now I find out [info]spacemantis bought himself the exact same laptop, down to brand and model in the pretense of it being a completely wacky and uncanny coincidence of some kind. REALLY, SIR. If you were a fan of my totally awesome mom, you could have just said so, instead of going through all this stalker nonsense! HUMPH AND HARRUMPH

Oh, and there was also some major DRAMA going down through all three days, but unfortunately not anything I am at liberty to discuss, I don't think. Suffice it to say, it does not involve me and ma belle, at least not directly, but a different couple in close proximity. I've been praying for them intensely recently, but darned if sometimes it doesn't seem like anyone's listening!

In closing, something very interesting I learned over Sunday with a man who is fast-becoming my favoritest EVER priest; mom had given up coffee for Lent, and after the Rite of the Elect, wouldn't you know it, they were serving coffee and cookies! So she was looking around for tea when Father Randy asked her what she was looking for. She told him, and explained that she had given up coffee for Lent.

He was all like, "Oh, no, no, you can have whatever you gave up for Lent on Sundays."

And we were all like, "O RLY"

Basically, he explained that Sundays on Lent, and indeed, every Sunday of the year is a feast in commemoration and celebration of the Resurrection, and so fasts are not normally exercised on that day. I observed that this made sense, as I learned some time ago (and have been trying to practice) the parallel habit of keeping Fridays holy by fasting a bit and engaging in some abstinences and mortifications in memory of the real Good Friday throughout the year. And mom had been joking earlier too about Sundays having special dispensation from fasts because of its relationship to Easter. She was right without knowing it! So she got to guzzle coffee, and Allie got to gorge herself on a chocolate chunk cookie while all I could do was watch because there wasn't any Coke in the area. HARRUMPH. At least Allie looked absolutely ecstatic eating that cookie-- I don't think any pastry was ever as happily consumed as that one was.

At least I can look forward to this Sunday, when I can hop on Team Fortress 2 and people will be all like, "Cobbly Wobbles! Where have you been?" and I'll be all like, "Oh, I gave TF2 up for Lent." and they'd be all like, "But it's still Lent!" and I'd be all like, "Yeah, but I get to lift my fast during mini-Easter."

The obvious contradiction in this story of course is that nobody will greet me when I come back to my regular server, but instead the usual carnage will progress unimpeded, and people will take turns peppering me with buckshot or caving my skull in with blunt instruments. I would have it no other way, really.

Godspeed!

Oh, what I would do to C. Viper if only I could DRAW

I still maintain that any substance abstained from that is allowed during each mini-Easter should in some direct way give glory to God. You can bet I was praising Him as that gooey delectable tooth-rotting pulverized bean derivative melted in my mouth XP

Though I suppose as you run around pwning n00bs and raising pixelated crimson tides, you COULD get away with substituting Allahu Akbar! in lieu of your constant server rickrolling, maybe yes? ^_^

Re: glorification-- as should every action of ours strive to be! :D

Also, I like to think that I already put the fear of God in them as it is, my pet~

Although perhaps a Lenten texture spray might not be entirely inappropriate... :3

Oi, do I know that feeling. But you know, we're not responsible for the fruits, just the planting.

Also, I knew that about Lent. Look up Refreshment Sunday, too -- that one's a doozy.

No, Refreshment Sunday (at least in Lent) is special.

1)Dedicated to the Virgin, it's the original Mother's Day. (In England, servants used to be given the weekend off so they could go home and visit their mothers.) Flowers on the altar (not usual in Lent). Vestments are rose-colored. AND no fasting.

You counting tabletop roleplaying games as Lentstuff? On the 21st, a Saturday, there is D&D Game Day.

http://www.dndgameday.com/

You can finally get a chance to check it out. And preview some races and classes from the upcoming PHB2 to boot. And you get to take home a miniature of the character you play! Prepainted.

I'm gonna be going with some friends, gonna see how many of them don't want their minis. I loves my minis. It's been a while since I've posted photos of minis, hasn't it...

Sorry, man, in another confluence of extremely eerie coincidences, that weekend seems to be earmarked for a retreat I was looking at. If the retreat doesn't work out, I'll look into it, as I really am dying to play a real game, but, oh, the demands of the kingdom do tug at me so...

But by buying that system on Monday, your purchase took place an entire WEEK after my own. I would then argue that your MOTHER is the one who is, in fact, biting MY style.

Keep a close eye on her- I haven't had it in me to draw Peach 'n' Daisy smut lately, and she may just be taking up that particularly nasty torch.

(seriously, though, it is a pretty sweet laptop, and for an absolute STEAL of a price. Good pick!)

Don't praise me too much, I walked into an Office Depot and saw it had the best price and rebate for the best proportional power. Thank the economy! :V

Bizarrely enough, it's her hair, particularly the rooster-comb *thing* on the top of her head, that bothers me the most.

I should get better about Lent, really. Although this year I'm not so much giving something up as I am trying to correct some behaviors that I've started to find distressing, like increasingly casual swearing and letting my temper take the reins more often. It's a start, I think, and unlike previous years, I don't think I'll be tempted to revert once Lent is over.

Oh, you mean the Crimson Viper :D? It's the hot new hairstyle for this summer. I suppose we (and her stylist) should just be thankful she didn't choose "Aqua Moose" as a codename instead.

I gave up worrying for Lent one year, back in my dead broke, single-parent days when my retirement plan was to get the kid through college and then kill myself. I was not in a very trusting frame of mind, but making a conscious effort to stop worrying really helped. And almost none of the bad things I was worrying about turned into realities.

Good thing, too, because the kid never did graduate. :D

I'm not doing very well with regards behaving my wandering eyes and imagination either, so you are nevar alone! It's the inclination to discipline is what counts I suppose, so though we may be clutching the wagon desperately, we're still on the right wagon at least. :D

I remember when my family learned about the Sunday exemption from fasts deal. It was back during my WOW kick, so just guess what I gave up. I remember being elated and started playing WOW right after getting back from church. When my dad asked, I explained. He pretty much said if I didn't have the self discipline to abstain from the game for forty days, Sunday pardon or not, I wasn't as tough as he thought I was. The guilt set in and I logged off. Ah well, such is life with a former green beret.

I really need to try TF2 one of these days. I love the little movies on their site.

Dohohohohoo, in point of fact, it seems that circumstances seem to conspire to keep me from TF2 anyway, even on Sundays, and so I end up giving it up anyway. And, yeah, me and Allie do think in some way that the resumption of fun times on Sundays seems a little bit like a copout, and diminishes the sacrifice somewhat. But that's just the ticklings of pride talking, I'd say; mostly we're just plain not used to it, that's all. It's all in the rationale behind what you do (as long as the action is itself is good or neutral, of course)-- I decided to go as far as to drink Coke on Sundays, but I definitely need to abstain from my favorite game, as I definitely exhibit my semi-addictive personality quirk whenever I am overexposed to it. And don't let what your father said getya down; dads have a tendency to be a little blunt about that sort of thing, but they have their own expectations to deal with themselves. Just trust in the Father that knows all in your heart and sees what is hidden in secret. :3
