Went to the WRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY 'EMMMMMM SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYY this morning and got to swim around in their pool for fifteen minutes. Now I am utterly demolished, put to shame by a couple of old geezers who were there when I came in, and were still there when I had to give up and leave. My heart was pounding out of my chest, my head was aching with blood pressure, and I'm pretty sure the lifeguard on duty was snickering behind my back about this scrawny amateur flopping around like a drowned rat in one of the lap lanes. How could I communicate to her in a single look that I'd worked my butt off the night previous, that it's been a good long while since I've swum seriously, or indeed, had any proper exercise? Barring that, I just swallowed my pride (and a considerable volume of pool water) and flailed my way from one end to the other a few times, if only to justify my visit.
I'd probably have joined my brothers in their basketball game if I wasn't convinced that I'd make an even bigger fool of myself there. This weekend I'll try their gym equipment-- at least those things have manuals with them or something.
The unfamiliar ways which some of the exercising people there use dumbells and weights fill me with trepidation though.
Anyway, art.
I seem to have scored MIGHTILY with the purchase of yet another Sharpie marker, this time the one with the two ends, one of them fine point, and the other an 'ultra-fine' point, which is really just a felt-tipped marker. That thing was awesome for lines I wanted thinner than what the fine point could offer, but couldn't be bothered to run my gelpen through over and over.
Ever wonder what she looked like under all that armor? Well, there you go. No, don't ask me to take the rest off. :p
From the beginning, Zarela's character design was meant to be large-busted, if not necessarily Naga-esque in proportions, and I've been trying to capture this essence in many test doodles and sketches. I'd never realized how hard it was to draw pleasant-looking, proportional, balanced boobies. And while I always said I'd blame dosetsu if I ever turned from the Loli Side to the Breast Side, I don't think I'm turning yet in as much as plotting a course.
I'm afraid I'm terribly proud of this one. I usually add those swirly patterns on the plate armour to make it look more 'ornate' though I'm horrible at it because it's a subconscious need to add distractions so the viewer won't notice the weakness of the whole image. This time though, I plowed through with the basic shapes I wanted first and saved the details for last, which is unusual for me. The result was a take on perspective I rarely tackle, and when I do, almost never manage well. Now, I'm afraid of adding the 'intricate' patterns to the armour for fear of ruining what I feel was a very good product of my newly-acquired inking equipment. I've scanned it now, and it's free for me to color when I wish, so I suppose since it's saved somewhere in its original form, I can mess with the hard copy as I wish.
Yes, Zarela can dual-wield knight swords. In fact, one of her character quirks is that she's something of a nut for swords of all kinds. Also, that one swirly pattern I put on her armour? That's a rune I fashioned. Or something. It has some significance in the storyline I'm assigning her.
On to much MORE important things though.
( Shadra knows exactly what I want (because I tell her) )
Today I go to work sore and aching... but I'm all Lashed up now, AND I just got my shipment of The Journeyer, my favouritest book EVER (tied with Watership Down) from eBay, so I don't think I'm so bad off anymore. No drawing for me at work today, I'm dropping Shardik for the moment and reading this hot puppy right here. Kelderek was being a total bitch towards the half of the book anyway.
You know, I always had a philosophy about my favourite books, something that involves owning two of every book you love-- one copy to own, and love, and cherish, and another to read, and lend, and share with those you care about.
I swear, if I had the resources, I'd mail The Journeyer to just about everyone on my Friends List, along with other choice pieces I've stumbled upon in my short life (The Alchemist, Sandman, etc.). I say 'just about everyone' because I know some of you can't read. ;)
Godspeed~
